A 6 day journey that showcases one of the most impressive nature spectacles in all of the world: The Monarch butterfly Migration.
We met at the airport the afternoon of day 1 and quickly transferred to our hotel.
On day 2, we packed up and hit the road toward Michoacán. When we arrived, we headed straight for lunch to recharge our batteries, and finally we were ready for El Rosario Butterfly Sanctuary. We first hopped on our horses and rode for about 30 mins, then, time for walking came, after about 20 minutes we finally caught our first real glimpse of the monarchs, hundreds of thousands of them clustering on the trees like living ornaments.

Day 3 was all about Sierra Chincua, another sanctuary tucked higher up in the mountains. We rode horseback for part of the way and then hiked a little deeper into the woods. The colony here felt different—more secluded somehow. At times, it was just us, the trees, and the constant, quiet fluttering of wings all around. The guides pointed out how this area has stayed vital for butterflies despite environmental challenges.

For day 4 once we checked out of our hotel, we were presented with the choice to visit either Cerro Pelon or go back to El Rosario, we decided to revisit El Rosario to take one last look at the largest Sanctuary in Mexico, once we were done, we made our way towards the magical town of Valle de Bravo, which welcomed us with crisp air and a completely different vibe—less remote but still surrounded by nature.
On the morning of day 5, we visited Piedra Herrada Sanctuary. This spot had its own magic; just like the previous 2 sanctuaries, the first leg of the trail was done by horse and the second stretch hiking, once we left the sanctuary, we even stopped at a small creek by the road where butterflies came down to feed and drink from the wet ground. It was incredible seeing them at eye level, not just in the trees above.
Later that afternoon, we wandered the streets of Valle de Bravo itself, cobblestone alleys, local shops, and that classic town square that seems frozen in time.

The morning of day 6, we stayed back at the hotel, just enjoying the property—some of us lounging by the gardens, others taking short walks or just relaxing with a coffee. It felt good to slow down a little after all the hiking and traveling. By midday, we loaded up the van and made the drive back to Mexico City.
Finally, it was time to head home. Departure transfers were arranged smoothly, and one by one, we made our way to the airport.
